Biofuels create more static
Substances in biofuels may increase charge generation and have an important impact on the frequency of incidents. The higher charging is due to a larger amount of polar impurities in the biocomponents of biofuel. Growth of bacteria and fungus in biodiesel (the "diesel bug") can also increase charge generation.
The safety margins with non-conductive pipes are already small (1x-8x) and they may not be suitable for all future fuels. The fuel flow may have to be limited to less than 2.8 m/s for non-conductive pipes used with biofuels.
The high safety margin of conductive pipes make them suitable for all current and conceivable future fuels, including biofuels.
