In any walk of life, the quest to acquire knowledge is never-ending, but when you’re operating in industries that are governed by an evolving roster of regulations and certifications, it is paramount to help ensure success. To that end, OPW has created
OPW University, which has been designed to help its customers in the retail fueling, vehicle wash and cargo truck industries stay informed on the latest products and systems, along with the federal, state and local regulations that govern their purchases, installations and operations.
Specifically, three OPW businesses currently offer video-based classes via the OPW University portal:
- OPW Retail Fueling: Possessing the most extensive OPW University offering to date, OPW Retail Fueling has developed Level 100, 200 and 300 training courses for its clients. The Level 100 courses, which range in length from 10 to 60 minutes, provide instruction on all five of the OPW Retail Fueling product groups – Retail Fueling, Underground Piping & Equipment, Hanging Hardware, Aboveground Equipment and Clean Energy. All have accompanying Workbooks and after all of the videos have been viewed, the student must complete an open-book 40-question Retail Fueling 101 Quiz in which he or she will need to score an 85% to pass. Level 200 classes delve into Spill Containment and Overfill Prevention. The 15 Level 300 courses offer deep dives into such topics as “How to Order a Loop Sump,” “Replacing a Sensor in the Edge Spill Bucket,” “Installing SBC Entry Fittings” and “Using the OPW Coupling Machine.”
- Civacon: The Level 100 curriculum offers instruction in Civacon’s Petroleum Trailer, Truck Tank, Crude Oil Transport and Dry Bulk Trailer equipment families, with the videos ranging from two to nine minutes. The 1- to 9-minute Level 300 courses touch on such subjects as “Troubleshooting a 5-Wire Overfill Prevention System” and “MCP CivaControl™ Air System Valve Replacement,” with a four-video series that explains the operation and outfitting of the COPS system.
- OPW Vehicle Wash Solutions: This in-bay and tunnel wash equipment provider has just one video in its course curriculum, but it’s a big one: a 50-minute class dedicated to “Vehicle Wash 101.” Specifically, the topic is “Car Wash Basics” and is designed to provide a 30,000-foot overview of what a car wash is, what makes a quality car wash and how the car wash should be operated to ensure its success.
