PDQ employees in De Pere, Wisconsin, recently raised money to help local families this holiday season. The team worked with the DePere Christian Outreach Christmas Store, a non-profit organization that provides for those in need throughout the De Pere East and West School districts. This year, the organization set up a store where families facing financial hardships can shop for holiday gifts for loved ones.
“We started by providing a Nacho Bar lunch for employees where we asked for a $3.00 donation, however, employees donated so much more,” said Lori Leith, PDQ HR manager. “We also had ornaments on a tree with suggested items for employees to purchase and donate. Between the fundraiser, additional monetary donations and the items donated by the employees, we were able to make a pretty significant contribution for the De Pere Community.”
The DePere Christian Outreach Christmas Store selects families based on referrals by East and West De Pere School Districts. In prior years, the organization ran their holiday outreach like an “Adopt-A-Family” program. However, over the years, the organization has found that parents have a more positive experience if they can pay something for the items they receive, so the store puts a small price on all items. The money raised from the shoppers then goes to support purchasing items for the following year.
